Schedule updates - click here for more information Tiger Lily Eastern Arts Tiger Lily was founded in 1999 with a vision to provide a place where people can explore personal growth. We use the vehicle of the martial arts specifically the art of Aikido. This art emphasizes:
* Proper body mechanics over strength. Aikido Aikido is the youngest of the Japanese martial arts, founded during the 1920's by Morihei Ueshiba. Known in Japanese as the Way of harmony, Aikido trains us to blend with an attacker and neutralize the aggression with least harm to the individual. Our classes use basic movements developed by Gozo Shioda in his Yoshinkan style. Each class consists of warm-ups, basic movements, falling / rolling practice and technique practice.
There are no competitions in Aikido, we practice for the joy of the art, for the lessons we can learn about self defense, ourselves and each other. At Tiger Lily we have classes for beginners and for all levels of students. We do observe a ranking system, and promotions are based on practice time. T'ai Chi T‘ai Chi, The Grand Ultimate, is an ancient Chinese art which has become a tool for wellness and fitness in modern times. Developed as an art of self defense by monks from watching movements of the animals, it contains many elements of martial arts. The wellness elements of the art have developed fom the breathing techniques, from moving the entire body as one unit and the practices of developing balance and mental focus. Modern medical studies have shown its effectiveness as a tool for improving balance, strength, stamina and alertness. TigerLily’s classes focus on the movements developed by Grandmaster William C.C. Chen.
